We were ready to tackle the mountain. So I took the red line on the map
above,
and headed for C1 "Machame camp (2835m)," the final destination
for the day
|
"WISHING YOU A GOOD CLIMB" on a sign!! Good!!
|
Less than one hour later, we had lunch.
I felt that eating food in the nature made the taste really great!!
|
On the way, I found some alpine plants.
On the left, it's called "Kilimanjaro Impatients" a.k.a "Trunk of an elephant"
|
I also found a "Colobus Monkey," which we can just see on Mt.Kilimanjaro.
----------- C1: Machame Camp(2835m) ----------
|
5 hours later, we got to Machame Camp safely, even though we had rain after
lunch.
It was still at 2835m and shorter than Mt. Akadake (2899m),
|
the highets peak of Yatsugatake mountains, which I climbed 2 times last
year.
Altitude sickness?? What's that? 2835m? Easy peasy!! I didn't feel any
altitude sickness at all.
|
After I got to C1, we went to the ranger station and followed the procedures
to stay overnight there. On Mt. Kilimanjaro, we have to do so every time
|
when we make it to each camp. And also, the porters have to go through
the scale
to see if the bag exceeds the weight limit of 15 kg every morning when
leaving each camp.
|
Right after that, the porters took me to my tent, which I used for 5 nights
alone.
It was so big for one person because it was for 2.
|
After the rest, Franziska and I had snacks,
popcorns and cookies, in the tent for meals. Very tasty!!
|
Until evening, I took a walk around with Franziska, having a conversation,
and visited the tent for the members of Team Raha. At that moment,
|
they were making dinner and I took a piece of deep fried white fish while
they were cooking.
|
----------- Dinner& Stars ----------
Todsy's dinner : veggie soup, bread, and the deep fried white fish with
coconut sauce.
|
It was very gorgeous as a camp meal!
|
After the dinner, the guide gave us a medical check and explained about
the schedule tomorrow
and...Good Night. But!! I went outside to see the beautiful starry sky.
|
But, to my disappointment, It was a night with the full moon so that a
bit bright to see stars...
It would have been more beautiful and I could see the milky way if it hadn't
been with the full moon.
|
Under the starry sky, I could see the "Kibo," the peak of Mt. kilimanjaro covered with snow also.
