At 6:30 a.m, we got up. Even though I'd kept drinking a lot of water since
the 1st day
the number of times I needed to go pee got decreased. But I just could sleep for 10 or 15 minutes
|
each time I went to pee. So, the total of sleep I had was just about an
hour.
In the early morning, I could see Mt.Meru and Kibo peak from the camp. Very beautiful!!
|
---------- Secret Weapon in the Tent ---------
I'm sorry for a dirty story... but a pee bottle was very useful in the
tent.
|
Franziska said to me, "You should bring a pee bittle. If we don't,
you have to go outside and have to walk for 5 or 10 minutes to the outhouse."
|
But I wanted to keep my loads small, so I wasn't planning to bring it to
Mt. Kilimanjaro.
But right before I left Japan, I thought that I should bring it, and I'm
glad I did!! A Good Decision!!
|
|
On the 3rd day, I took the green line on the map above.
I left C2 for C3 (Barranco Camp) via "Lava Tower (4600m)." The
day before,
|
when I got there, the weather was bad. So I took a picture there later
again before I left.
|
Also, on that day, we walked, walked, and walked, and got higher, higher,
and higher. Under the blue sky, the Kibo peak in pure snow white
|
was right in front of us, so its beauty made us forget our tiredness totally.
---------- ☆ The Guides ---------
|
● Head guide: Harold
|
He is the boss of "Team Raha," the climbing team I had.
He has climbed Mt.Kilimanjaro for about 270 times. Superhuman!!
|
He is the same age as me. He was very hospitable, even though I asked him
for lots favours and made some requests, he never said, No or turned me
down.
|
He has been to Japan , Tokyo and Kumamoto, so he loves Japan very much.
He asked me about Japanese life style. He knows a bit of Japanese language
|
such as greetings. And he asked me to teach some Japanese to him.
So I did, and he enthusiastically wrote down what I told him. A Good Student!!
|
●Assistant Head Guide: Tammy
He is the Harold's right hand man. He has also more than 200 successful trips
|
under his belt and he strongly guaranteed that he sure would make me stand
on the top of Africa when I asked him if I could conquer Mt.Kilimanjaro,
being worried.
|
He was also friendly but not as chatty as Harold, so he was working very
quietly :D
But he observed very carefully and always took care of us during the trip.
|
On the way, he told his stories about each trails, alpine plants,
and African animals. And he also taught us Swahili language a bit. |
After the trecking, on the final day, he also took me to Moshi town center,
and
stayed with me to get some souvenirs ans lunch until my flight time in
the evening. |
-------- Lava Tower (4600m) -------
More than 4000m high, the African desert area started!! Magnificient!!
|
After the long uphill,
the scenery opened up!!
|
Alpine Desert Area:
We could see Lava Tower on the right.
|
|
We made it to Lava Tower right on schedule and had lunch there!! So hungrry...
To be continued!! |
