⑫　Close Call......


I just looked at my cell phone. Oh!! It's already past 2 p.m!! I left Äkäslompolo at nine thirty
in the morning, so took about four and a half hours to get here as you can see, which means
I'd get to Äkäslompolo around six thirty in the evening at the earliest with simple calculation.

Take my beatup body, and the long and difficult trails into account,
I might get back to Äkäslompolo past six thirty in the evening.

Oh, No!!!!! Because of the clear sky, it seemed I carelessy went skiing way too far...
I gotta get back to Äkäslompolo very quickly before the sun sets completly.
Otherwise...... I'd be sleeping in the wild......



I cross-country skied desperately. But as the sun was setting,
all shadows were getting inexorably longer.

And it was getting dark... Everything made me scared......


There were two rest areas (point ⑦, ⑧) on my way back, but I didn't have
much time so skipped point ⑦ and went straight into point ⑧. At point ⑧,
it was about half past four in the afternoon and the cafe was already closed.

　

But a lady who runs it said, "You can still take a rest here!!" with her warm smile.
THANK GOODNESS!! I had a bag of cookies and a bottle of coke here.




Nobody except the owner and me......


It's like my private cafe!!


Fire!!!!!!!!!!!

Then the sun was just setting behind mountains while I was
in my deep thought looking the fantastic view out of the window.
How strange!! It seemed as if a meteorite crashed into the earth.


And also the beautiful sky at sunset!!

　

No!!No!!
No time for being intoxicated by it!! Snap out of it!!


I started to head for Äkäslompolo but was confused...... because
there were four routes at point ⑧ on my map but I could just see three of them.

I hurriedly went back to the cafe and asked her about the trails. Then she kindly
came out from the cafe with me and revealed the trick. "The rightmost trail forks
about 100m away so you should take the left trail from there." Oh!! I see!!
Most of the beginners could get lost very easily......


On the way, the sun completly set at last so I simply concentrated my energy
on for Äkäslompolo without enjoying any views and taking any pictures. As a result,
I made it in time to Äkäslompolo (point⑨) before getting dark totally, somehow.
It was CLOSE......
