⑨ Checking Out the Trail #2

After taking the rest, I got back to Äkäslompolo village center. When I skied down the hill,
I always felt frightened because of the high speed but I got comfortable the half way in.

In between the cafe and the village center, I passed the another cafe,
"KESÄNGIN KEDIAS" (The red circle on the map of the diary 8).

------- Climbing up Mt.KUER(445m)-------

After I got back to the lodge to put the ski gears, I headed for Mt.KUER afternoon.

Mitsuko told me that the top of the mountain is perfect for the Northern Lights hunting
so I wanted to try the spot. The starting point of the treck is roadway
the west side of the lake. (The pink circle on the map).

I learn that between the start and the top, it takes 40-50minutes walk. a bit too long??
On top of that, the trail has very steep ups and downs. And there are many frozen areas.

When I climbed up the mountain, it was only evening and a little hot. In other wards,
much brighter and hotter than the night. But at night, the trail changed
to very dark and dangerous, and temperature got much colder, less than -20 degrees.

Mitsuko is a guid for Japanese travellers so she might have wanted to introduce
some Japanese visitors the view point, the TOP, if possible. But, after I got back to the lodge,
I reported to her, "Actually it's very very dificult and dangerous
for general travellers and public elderly people to make it to the top......"

---------- Made It to the Top ----------

No other word needed, PICTURE PERFECT!!
I could look down not only the whole Äkäslompolo village and lake, but also 360 degree view
around Mt.KUER. If the sky is completely clear, we can see the whole starry sky
and Northern Lights covering the village, I could capture everything in one picture. Awsome.

But as the reason I'd mentioned before, I think that Reaching the top
is very very dificult and dangerous at night, and there was nothing
(even mountain huts or small store or food) at the top.
So the tough people or the people who have experienced outdoor a lot
just can wait for long time and hunt Northern Lights there.
We shouldn't even thinking about recommending the place to general travellers or elderly people...

The summit!!
I happened to see a Datch family of 4
so I asked them to take my picture.

I could look down the whole village.

After taking some pictures and the res, I went down again. Mitsuko told me it would take 40-50 minutes
(the return trip 80-100minutes). But I could complete in about only an hour.

To be continued!!
