16: Heading for Fairbanks

Like the map below, the train slowly took us to Fairbanks
as a train conductor was making announcements and explaining each point,
like the trains for Seward and Denali National Park a few days ago.

Right after we left, the train conductor immidiantely said, "We have many empty seats
in this train today so all ordinariy car passengers can freely move to the observation car."
So Lucky!! I did that right a way.

I could see the park center from the window clearly.
So Long!! Denali National Park!! Good Bye!!

I saw "George Parks High Way," which runs the Alaska State from Anchorage
to Fairbanks through Denali National Park. It often runs along the rail way on the way.

● 358.1 "HEALY"
This was a coal mining region. Some patches of black coal are sticking out
along the river. One-fifth of the profit from the freight came from coal transport.

● 362.6 "LIGNAITE"
The weather got better and better, and a large swampy land
started to open up so I could see the horizon often.

● 411.7 "NENANA"
There aren't any interesting places in particular to visit there so it was quiet.
This is the junction of Nenana River and Tanana River and I saw "Ice Classic Tower,"
which is the famous tripod for the local game near the station.

I heard the locals play the game to guess the day and the time,
when the ice of the river begins to melt every Spring.
They place the tower on the ice. when the ice melts and moves
and the internal clock stops, they take it and read its time.

● 413.7 "MEARS MEMORIAL BRIDGE"
It's the 213m long bridge, which connected Fairbanks and Denali National Park in 1923.

In front of Fairbanks, 2 beautiful rainbow appeared!!

About 4 hours after I left Denali National Park, I got to Fairbanks eventually.
It was already at 8 p.m but was still light.

To be continued!!
